Voliature vs hiring a CSR

Hiring is the obvious answer to a phone that keeps ringing out. It is also the most expensive one, and it does not solve the hours nobody is at the desk.

01

One person covers about a quarter of the week

A full-time CSR works roughly 40 of the 168 hours in a week. Evenings, weekends and holidays — when emergency HVAC work actually happens — are not covered by that hire. Full coverage means three or four people, not one.

02

A person handles one call at a time

During a surge the constraint is not willingness, it is arithmetic. When five calls arrive at once, four of them wait or ring out no matter how good the person answering is. Adding staff raises the ceiling; it does not remove it.

03

The real cost is not the salary

Recruiting, training, payroll tax, cover for holiday and sickness, and the months before a new hire knows your equipment and your customers all sit on top of the wage. And the whole investment can resign.

04

Where hiring genuinely wins

A good CSR who has been with you for years knows your customers, reads a situation, and handles an upset homeowner with judgement that no system replicates. If your call volume fits inside business hours and one person can absorb it, hiring is a perfectly rational choice — and we would rather tell you that than sell you something you do not need.

05

Most businesses need both

The strongest setup is usually not one or the other. It is a front office that absorbs the routine volume and the out-of-hours load, so the people you employ spend their time on the calls where their judgement actually changes the outcome.
